Carer's Allowance and CB/CTC mutually exclusive
Fri 09-Jan-09 08:28 AM

19 year old just started NVQ level 1 course. College have arranged an unpaid placement in a school for 15 hours a week. She does not have to attend college at present. A qualifying young person I think, so parent can claim CB/CTC. Can the youngster also claim CA? Reg 8(2) of the CB regs prevents CB/CTC being claimed for a youngster who gets IS/IBJSA/IB/TCs (and ESA presumably), but CA is not mentioned. The youngster also works part time for under £95/wk. Any thoughts please?

I had a client in just that position who claimed CA- I couldn't find anything to prevent her from doing so and they paid without a problem. Hope this helps!
