Permitted work after intro of ESA
Thu 11-Sep-08 11:41 AM

I am clear regarding 'permitted work' for ESA claimants. I need clarification of the 'permitted work' rules for those claimants who remain on IB/IS post 27/10/08.

Do IB/IS claimants beenefit from the new rules or not?

Thanks for any help

Paul

I don't think existing claimants will benefit as the new permitted work rules are specifically contained within the ESA regulations and therefore only apply to ESA (as against other issues where amendments have been made to existing regulations).

Might be worth taking up with DWP though?

You will see from today's announcments that at least the permitted earnings level has been increased and the disability qualified members on DATs get the same right to work two half days a week as ESA claimants. It's better than nothing, but only just.

Which reminds me of one of my favourite overhears, reported I think by Alan Bennett:

"Dreadful weather we're having!"

"Yes, but it's better than nothing."

I was strangely reminded of this when watching the weather forecast last night after the successful switch on of the Large Hadron Collider.
